‘Bring back the community garden,’ says sixth grader
Dear Editor,
I am a student at Lafayette Township School. We have a pond with a soccer field, baseball field, a playground etc. But, along with all of that, there was a community garden. People stopped using it for years. Personally, I feel it should be reopened.
First, children and adults may find for the first time that they love gardening and possibly want to do it as a hobby or job. This would be a great learning experience. Second, we would have more fruit and vegetables for food. This would help people that may not get food, such as the homeless. This would also allow for more variety of food.
Third, you can grow whatever you want, whether it is cucumber, squash, tomatoes, potatoes, corn, or any other plant. That would be great to grow and eat any vegetable you want, and I think people would be happier. Finally, if someone has little space near their homes that they own, this would be a good alternative. Many would know what it would be like to own a garden.
I think having a community garden at the pond once more would be great! Lots of people would love the garden and love to see one reopened.
