Bury me beneath a tree.
Lay me down on a deep bed
with earth as my comforter.

I will snuggle in the downy mycelium
weaving its fungal threads
around and through
drinking up the nutrients
in this gathering of water,
and carbon,
and memories
that might remain
after my spirit has moved on.
Turning old life into new
the mycorrhizal network reaching,
connecting — sharing news and nutrients
among the living.

Come visit us, sit in the shade,
rest your back against the trunk
and tell me how you are.
