Repair Café comes to Chester
In November, Chester held its inaugural Repair Café at the Chester Senior Center. Chester joins Warwick – the first of a growing number of Orange County towns to host a community fix-it clinic – in becoming part of the worldwide repair movement.
Among the 223 beloved but broken items brought by residents were lamps, chairs, clocks, statues, toasters, knives, garden tools, scissors, bicycles, jewelry, pocketbooks, an antique radio/phonograph, computers, a CD player, lampshades, all kinds of clothing, a camera, a menorah and a snow globe. Most people walked away with their item fixed, free of charge. “This was truly a ‘neighbor helping neighbor’ event bringing together the talents and dedication of so many people and organizations to promote sustainability and community support,” said Jane Dysinger, co-chair for the event.
A spring 2025 Chester Repair Café is being considered. ChesterAdvisory@gmail.com for more info.
